This program will educate attendees on research regarding the uses and benefits of nutraceuticals and will update them on new developments in the arena of nutritional supplements. They will also learn about guidelines to evaluate nutraceuticals and be able to identify those that offer quality and efficacy.
Learning Objectives:
Understand how nutraceuticals may be incorporated as an adjunctive and complementary modality to the traditional management of a variety of conditions.
Develop a practical framework for utilizing nutraceuticals, customized to each patient’s needs.

Speaker Bios...
Richard Ford, DVM, DACVIM (SAIM), DACVPM
Dr. Richard Ford is Emeritus Professor of Medicine in the College of Veterinary Medicine at North Carolina State University.
A graduate of Ohio State University, Dr. Ford practiced small animal and equine medicine prior to completing the internal medicine residency at Michigan State University. He taught internal medicine at Purdue University and North Carolina State University.
He is Board Certified by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine and is an honorary Diplomate in the American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine.
Dr. Ford was the Lead Editor of the 2017 AAHA Canine Vaccination Guidelines and has served as a co-author on the AAFP Feline Vaccination Guidelines.
Outside of veterinary medicine, Dr. Ford spent 28 years with the US Air Force as a Biomedical Scientist. He retired from the USAF Reserve as a Brigadier General, where he was assigned to the Office of the Air Force Surgeon General at the Pentagon.
Michael A. Rossi, DVM, MNS, Dip. ACVD
Dr. Michael A. Rossi is a native of New Orleans, Louisiana. He completed his Master's degree and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at Louisiana State University. His Master’s program focused on the role ofneuropeptides in equine allergic airway disease. After veterinary school, he finished a one-year rotating internship at the Regional Veterinary Referral Center in the Washington, D.C. area. Thereafter, he completed a specialized veterinary dermatology internship at the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine (NCSU-CVM) in Raleigh, NC. Upon completion of this internship, he participated in a two-year veterinary dermatology residency with NCSU-CVM and clinical work with the Veterinary Referral Center of Colorado (VRCC). He moved back to the Gulf Coast region in 2015 to found Coastal Veterinary Dermatology & Ear Clinic. Dr. Rossi has been board certified by the American College of Veterinary Dermatology since 2014. He is an active committee member of the World Association for Veterinary Dermatology.
While not in the clinic, Dr. Rossi donates his time to treat skin conditions of animals in zoos and wildlife centers when possible. He has performed dermatology procedures on several species, including polar bears and Eland antelope. He has authored and coauthored several scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals. He has lectured both nationally and internationally on conditions related to dermatologic diseases. He has a special interest in allergic skin disease, ear disease, epidermal barrier function, dermatohistopathology, and autoimmune skin disease.

Robert Swinger, DVM, DACVO
Dr. Robert Swinger completed his undergraduate work and received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Illinois in 2003. After completing an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Veterinary Specialists of South Florida in 2004, he went on to complete both an ophthalmology internship and residency at the Animal Eye Specialty Clinic. Soon thereafter, he joined the VCA Aurora Animal Hospital before returning to Florida in 2011 to launch Animal Eye Guys. Animal Eye Guys has several locations across South Florida extending on the east coast from Miami to Coral Springs and on the west coast from Fort Myers to Naples. Dr. Swinger is board certified and a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists.
In his work environment, Dr. Swinger enjoys teaching and taking active roles in the clinic’s internship/residency programs. He is an active lecturer/wet lab instructor across the nation including the Florida Veterinary Medical Association, The Gulf Atlantic Veterinary Conference, Vet Vacation CE and many local events for his referring veterinary community. He currently serves on the Florida Veterinary Medical Association’s Executive Board and is a member of the Wedgewood Medical Advisory Board. Outside of the veterinary arena, Dr. Swinger enjoys spending time with his family (which includes his twins, Keegan and Francesca, and a toy poodle, Sophia) and enjoys the outdoors.
Lucas Trout, DVM
Dr. Trout joined Nutramax Laboratories as a Field Professional Services Veterinarian in 2019. He practices small animal general medicine in Harford County Maryland. His prior experience includes small animal emergency medicine and mixed animal private practice. His summer job at Ehrhardt Dairy Farms as a child, sparked his passion for veterinary medicine.
He graduated St. Mary’s College of Maryland cum laude with a B.A. in Biochemistry and Biology and played varsity baseball. He graduated from Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine and loves spending time with his wife, three children and beagle.

Dr Peter Weinstein is a husband, father, pet parent, veterinarian and leader.
He has been involved with virtually all aspects of veterinary practice from a 15-year-old kennel kid to a hospital owner.
Organized veterinary medicine has been a passion as well with various roles and leadership and presidencies of Southern California VMA, California VMA, and Vet Partners.
He is a published author, most notably of the E-Myth Veterinarian-Why Most Veterinary Practices Don’t Work and What to Do About It.
Currently, he is teaching business and finance at the Veterinary College of Western University of Health Sciences.
He likes to think of himself as a free-thinking change agent and disruptor who, because he has a daughter who is a recent graduate from veterinary school, is working for an even better veterinary profession in the future.
